TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW and KWCH) - Update Thursday evening, Jan. 21, 2021: Phase 2 of the COVID-19 vaccination plan is officially underway in Kansas. Addressing the state on Thursday, Governor Laura Kelly said her team is “laser-focused” on the vaccine rollout in the state. But there are many challenges ahead to get a shot in the arms of those in the next group which includes people 65 and older, first responders and high-contact workers including teachers.

In addressing the state on Thursday, Kelly made it clear that a lot of decisions in the next phases will be left up to individual counties. Governor Kelly also appointed a COVID chief advisor.
