SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan. (KWCH) - Update: The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office identified the man killed in an early Friday-morning motorcycle crash that ended a chase near southeast Wichita as 37-year-old Timothy A. Tatum, of Wichita.

The sheriff’s office said at 2:30 a.m. Friday (March 5) a deputy attempted to stop a motorcycle for a registration violation near 47th South and Broadway.

“After the deputy turned on his overhead lights and siren the driver fled eastbound on the motorcycle. At the intersection of 47th Street South and Oliver the fleeing driver struck a raised median, ending the pursuit,” the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office said Tatum died at the scene.

The accident happened near the intersection of 47th and Oliver.

The sheriff’s office said a deputy attempted to stop the motorist, but they fled and struck a pole.

The area will be shut down until after 5:30 a.m.
