WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A 19-year-old died Tuesday when a handgun was accidentally discharged.

Wichita Police said that 21-year-old Jordan Williams was handling the gun inside an apartment in the 500 block of North Nims when the gun discharged and struck Jyrez Ricks. Three other individuals were also with the two.

When police arrived, they found Ricks in the parking lot where he was pronounced dead on scene.

Williams was later arrested for involuntary manslaughter.

The investigation is ongoing and the case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.

Wichita police are investigating a deadly shooting near downtown.

Officers responded to a shooting call at an apartment complex in the 500 block of Nims around 8 p.m. They arrived to find a 19-year-old man in the parking lot with a gunshot wound. He died on the scene.

Police are investigating what led up to the shooting. They are speaking to witnesses in the area.

No arrests have been made.
