ANDOVER, Kan. (KWCH) - Update: Andover Central High School was evacuated Friday morning due to a chemical spill in a chemistry classroom.

Because the spill involved sodium, which is combustible, the building was evacuated and students were escorted over to Jaguar Stadium until firefighters determined it was safe to re-enter, which was about two hours.

“We were fortunate it was a beautiful day out, and students cheered on Meadowlark Elementary students who were participating in their annual field day,” said ACHS principal, Amanda Grier.

Three science classrooms were sealed off for crews to complete the clean-up process. Those classes were relocated to other rooms for the rest of the day.

UPDATE: The spill has been cleaned up, and the building has been cleared for entry. Students will re-enter the building...
