WPD: 6-year-old taken with stolen vehicle found safe in Oklahoma

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Update: The Wichita Police Department confirmed a missing 6-year-old girl was found safe in Oklahoma by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Sunday night after a man stole a vehicle with her in it from a north Wichita parking lot.

Police said this a little before 7 p.m. Sunday, WPD officers responded to the 2300 block of North Amidon for an auto theft/kidnapping in the parking lot of a liquor store.

Officers contacted a man who reported that while he’d goin into the store, an unknown man stole his vehicle with his 6-year-old daughter still inside. Police identified that an as 34-year-old Benjamin Brady.

About an hour later, members of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) stopped the vehicle about 22 miles south of the Kansas/Oklahoma line. The OHP arrested Brady and booked him into the Kay County Jail. Next steps include extraditing him back to Kansas.

The girl returned to Wichita where she reunited with family after detectives from the Exploited and Missing Child Unit interviewed her, police said.

The Wichita Police Department (WPD) is looking for a missing 6-year-old. She was abducted just before 7 p.m. near the 2300 block of N. Amidon Ave Sunday evening, WPD said.

WPD said the child was in a car, a gold Lexus RX330, which was stolen.

She was last seen wearing black leggings and a light blue hoodie. She has brown curly hair and brown eyes and is around 4′ 6″ tall.
