WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Update: The victim was a 16-year-old boy from Texas. He suffered several gunshot wounds to his upper body and was hospitalized.

Update: The Wichita Police Department continues to investigate a Thursday night shooting in a north Wichita neighborhood that left a teen with injuries described as critical but non-life-threatening.

Wichita Police Lt. Matt Lang said a little after 9:30 p.m., WPD officers responded to a disturbance that escalated to a report to check for shots fired and then to a shooting call in which a teen was wounded. This happened in the area of 23rd Street North and Market.

Lt. Lang said there was a gathering at a nearby home at which an argument escalated to a fight.

“At some point, someone pulled out a gun and started shooting,” Lang said.

He said the injured teen was found outside the home.

As of late Thursday night, Lang said the investigation continued to develop a suspect. Lang said at least two to three guns were involved with at least 18 shots fired. The teen found at the scene was the only one injured, police said.
